CHINA. To honor next month’s China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo), a specially designed aircraft by China Southern Airlines, adorned with the event’s logo, colors and mascots, made its maiden flight today. today (March 13).
After being unveiled in Guangzhou, the Airbus 321 flew to Haikou Meilan International Airport. Under a five-year agreement, China Southern Airlines is the designated airline for the Hainan Expo.
The aircraft features the Hainan Expo theme both outside and inside the cabin. This includes the recently unveiled series of event mascots dubbed “Hainan Industrial Gibbon”. Individually, the mascots are named Hainan Planting Gibbon, Hainan Diving Gibbon and Hainan Astronaut Gibbon, references to Hainan’s three key elements – land, sea and air – and Hainan’s main industries derived from agriculture (seeds ), marine and aerospace.
Each side of the plane’s exterior features a unique design and a palette consisting of pink, purple and blue – echoing the color scheme of the Hainan Expo. The image of Hainan astronaut Gibbon is seen on the left side of the aircraft body, flying
skyward with a balloon in hand – a representation of Hainan’s adventurous spirit and high hopes for the future.
On the right side is Hainan Diving Gibbon, springing from the ocean on the back of a whale, symbolizing Hainan’s
technological advances and dynamism of innovation. Meanwhile, Hainan Planting Gibbon sits on the tail of the plane, growing crops using high-tech farming practices. The image serves as a call to global businesses and consumers to cultivate a bright, sustainable future together.
Passengers received personalized gifts to celebrate the maiden flight
The Expo, organized by the Hainan Provincial Bureau for International Economic Development (Hainan IEDB) will be held from April 12 to 16 in Haikou.
