Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson appeared to punch a man several times on a plane Wednesday night, leaving the victim bloodied.
According to TMZ Sports, a video appeared to show Tyson punching the man, who was sitting behind him. The incident happened at San Francisco International Airport at 10:30 p.m. PT on a flight preparing to depart for Florida.
A witness, who is the victim’s friend, told TMZ that Tyson was initially cordial and even took a selfie with them, but when his friend ignored Tyson’s warning to stop disturb him, the former pugilist would have been physically violent.
The witness said Tyson got off the plane seconds later, while the man reportedly received medical attention and surrendered to police.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Tyson had an incident on a flight with an aggressive passenger who began harassing him and threw a bottle of water at him while he was seated in his seat,” Tyson’s representatives told TMZ in a statement.
Tyson, 55, is one of the most famous and successful fighters of all time. He won each of his first 37 professional fights and retired with a career record of 50-6, including 44 wins by knockout.
However, Tyson is no stranger to trouble outside the ring. Most notably, he served nearly three years in prison from 1992 to 1995 after being convicted of rape.
He also infamously bit Evander Holyfield’s ear in a 1997 fight which he lost by disqualification.
Although Tyson hasn’t competed in an official professional boxing match since 2005, he returned to the ring in 2020 for an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. The eight-round bout ended in a draw.
