The US President was staying at his Delaware vacation home with his wife, Jill Biden, when a plane approached the property today, Saturday. The couple were evacuated as a precaution.

Secret Service officials said there were no significant threats against the president.

Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi noted that the pilot “mistakenly” entered restricted airspace.

He said: ‘Shortly before 1pm today a private plane entered restricted airspace over Rehoboth Delaware after mistakenly entering a secure area.

“The aircraft was immediately escorted out of the restricted airspace.”

A preliminary investigation into the event revealed that the pilot was on the wrong radio channel, according to The Washington Post.

It is also understood that he did not follow published flight guidelines.

The Secret Service said they planned to interview the pilot.

Earlier this week, the Federal Aviation Administration issued flight restrictions, including a 10-mile radio exclusion zone around the property, ahead of the visit.

CBS News reporter Bo Erickson said in a Twitter post that he saw the president “through the wind of an SUV” during the evacuation.

He wrote in a post on Twitter: “Just before the motorcade, I saw two military planes flying low over the seaside town.”

Mr Biden was reportedly taken to a nearby fire station.

A local resident told Mr Erickson she saw ‘two military-style jets’ swooping over the town after the plane was found in the restricted area.
